Innovative Materials Research and Advanced Device Design for Hydrogen Mobility

The Hydrogen Utilization Research Division aims to significantly advance hydrogen utilization technologies, which play a leading role in realizing a hydrogen-based society. The division engages in comprehensive research on innovative material design at the atomic and nanoscale levels. By utilizing advanced analytical techniques such as microscopy and synchrotron radiation, it advances hydrogen fuel cell technologies and  the characterization of advanced materials for hydrogen production, delivery, and storage.

The division promotes research and development of materials and systems that address key bottlenecks in device design, while also supporting new applications, industrial collaboration, social demonstration, and public outreach. In particular, it leads the development of innovative materials and devices for the full-scale deployment of hydrogen mobility.
