DivisionsHydrogen Production Research Division

Toward Low-Cost Green Hydrogen Production

The Hydrogen Production Research Division focuses on addressing the most critical challenge toward realizing a hydrogen-based society: the development of low-cost green hydrogen production technologies. This includes research on catalysts and electrochemical cell systems. The division also pursues high-efficiency hydrogen production through water electrolysis in combination with solar power generation.

Furthermore, it promotes research on next-generation technologies that enable direct hydrogen production from sunlight, such as photocatalysts and photo-functional electrodes, which are expected to achieve ultimate conversion efficiency. In addition, the division develops catalytic technologies that utilize organic dyes to harvest a broad range of visible light for hydrogen production. The feasibility and effectiveness of naturally occurring hydrogen are also being investigated.
