Dr. Satyapal Launches the Global Institute for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells (GIHF), with HYDROGENIUS Faculty Joining the Initiative

Dr. Sunita Satyapal, Senior Advisor to the Hydrogen Institute for Sustainability (HYDROGENIUS) at Kyushu University, launched the Global Institute for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells (GIHF) on October 8, 2026, in conjunction with World Hydrogen Day.

GIHF is an independent, science-driven institute to foster global collaboration and transparent knowledge exchange that underpin hydrogen and fuel cell research, enable viable innovations, engage with communities, and advance education for the workforce and leaders of the future. Kyushu University announced its participation in GIHF in January 2026. As its Founder and President, Dr. Satyapal aims to foster collaboration among researchers and research institutions worldwide.

From HYDROGENIUS, Professor Shin Nishimura, Associate Director and Head of the International and Interdisciplinary Collaboration Research Division, is participating in GIHF as a Technical Advisor in materials compatibility, while Professor Kazunari Sasaki, Associate Director and Head of the Hydrogen Utilization Research Division, is serving as an Honorary Advisor.

Dr. Satyapal also encourages students and researchers at Kyushu University to actively participate in GIHF. Through GIHF, expanded international research exchanges and collaborations are expected to further strengthen the role of HYDROGENIUS as a hub for hydrogen research.
