On June 12, Kyushu University’s project, “Developing a Kyushu University Reskilling Education Program for Building an Innovation Ecosystem”, was selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)’s Program for Building Industry–Academia Reskilling Ecosystems.

The program aims to support universities in developing and delivering reskilling programs in collaboration with regional partners and industry while fostering industry–academia–government ecosystems that address evolving workforce development needs.

Under the selected project, Kyusyu University will develop practical reskilling programs in three strategic fields—Semiconductors × Management, Hydrogen, and Offshore Wind Power—by leveraging its multidisciplinary expertise. These programs are scheduled to begin in October 2026.

The Hydrogen Reskilling Education Program will be jointly operated by the Faculty of Engineering, Kyushu University, the Hydrogen Institute for Sustainability, and Kyudai OIP Inc., in collaboration with Fukuoka Prefecture and the Fukuoka Prefecture Hydrogen Green Growth Strategy Conference.

Since the enforcement of Japan’s Hydrogen Society Promotion Act in October 2024, the deployment of hydrogen technologies has accelerated, creating an urgent need for professionals with expertise in hydrogen-related technologies. Through interactive on-demand learning materials combined with hands-on laboratory experiments and practical training, the program aims to provide participants with a systematic understanding of the fundamental principles of hydrogen science and engineering while developing the practical skills needed to apply that knowledge to hydrogen-related technologies.
